During his residency he developed his skills in advanced musculoskeletal surgical techniques. He also did basic science research on ligament replacement materials used in knee reconstructive surgery.

Dr. DeMaagd moved back to Grand Rapids, beginning his orthopedic practice in 1988. He is a senior partner at Orthopedic Associates of Michigan. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery , and was elected to fellowship in the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor for Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, engaged in teaching the next generation of doctors. Dr. DeMaagd has been a team physician for multiple local schools, and also professional teams.

In his (now ample) free time he enjoys spending time with his family, especially his 6 grandkids. He also enjoys playing golf, and tinkers with the banjo.
