Robert DeMaagd, M.D.
Dr. DeMaagd is a retired board certified orthopedic surgeon with over 30 years of experience in the surgical treatment of hip, knee and shoulder problems. He specialized in reconstructive hip and knee surgery, and had a particular emphasis on direct anterior hip replacement.
A native of Grand Rapids, Dr. DeMaagd graduated from Grand Rapids Christian High School, then obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in biology and chemistry from Calvin College. He graduated “with distinction” from the University of Michigan Medical school, reserved for the top 5 percent of graduates. He was elected to the alpha omega alpha honor medical society during his junior year at Michigan.
Dr. DeMaagd then furthered his training, studying orthopedic surgery at the University of Wisconsin for 5 years. During his residency he developed his skills in advanced musculoskeletal surgical techniques. He also did basic science research on ligament replacement materials used in knee reconstructive surgery.
Dr. DeMaagd moved back to Grand Rapids, beginning his orthopedic practice in 1988. He is a senior partner at Orthopedic Associates of Michigan. He is board certified by the
American Board of Orthopedic Surgery , and was elected to fellowship in the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor for Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, engaged in teaching the next generation of doctors. Dr. DeMaagd has been a team physician for multiple local schools, and also professional teams.
In his (now ample) free time he enjoys spending time with his family, especially his 6 grandkids. He also enjoys playing golf, and tinkers with the banjo.
